How will Support Workers become familiar with the guidelines for service users with limited time? Would the Support Co-ordinators be responsible if the Support Worker made an error when they haven’t read the guidelines?
- This will form part of the induction process and the on-going guidance from the Support Coordinators and the Service Coordinator. We will look at how we record whether staff have read the guidelines. The same principal regarding not following guidelines will be followed during the pilot as now.
How will we introduce the Support Workers to the service users? What about new staff being ‘targeted by some service users?
- This will form part of the induction process. The same principal will apply during the pilot as now with regard to new staff being targeted.
Are staff likely to have to work with service users who need personal care? What if staff feel unable to do this?
- Support Workers will be working with a wide range of service users so it is likely that they will support individuals with personal care. Support Coordinators may not have to if the service users do not require this support, however, it is important to note that needs change and this may not always be the case. If staff feel they are unable to do this then they can discuss further with the Team Coordinator or Contract Manager.
Would only the Support Co-ordinators complete the daily money checks?
- Yes.
What if a Support Worker refuses to carry out the instructions of a Support Co-ordinator?
- If any staff member refuses to work within agreed guidelines then this will be investigated and may be subject to disciplinary action. The Support Coordinator is in place to guide Support Workers in line with policy, procedure and the wishes of the service user.
